It's Not Over Yet (2021)

Tanika Johnny-Gauntts

The submitted piece is an ode to endurance, or rather the acceptance of something undesirable but inevitable. As we collectively transition into the next phase, we ask ourselves, "have things gotten better out there?". This piece is intended to evoke dystopian themes of some far off reality, but make no mistake. Our world is figuratively and literally on fire at any given point in time. It begs the question, how do you ensure that you hold on? The little house on a hill is a frequent symbol I return to as an artist. This piece brings forth my family history as well as my present reality, meaning the endurance of my mother as well as her mother before and so on, feed the concept of this piece. Secluded and somewhere far, but always home and always pushing forward no matter the dark circumstances.
